no user defined textures in image rendering?
Hello there

I was wondering if there's an option to choose so when I render an image it also shows user defined textures. As you can see on this screenshot, the textures when not the original ones aren't rendered at all. This doesn't change when I set quality to better or best for me.

As I'm talking about the better quality atm, when I render a video and say better quality the quality is very very grained. Haven't tried it at best quality now as this would take over 8 hours for me heh :)

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
I'm aware of this problem, but didn't find out where it comes from (it's strange because it depends on some computer).
This should work when you use the two best qualities though.

That's partly why there are those quality levels. If you're not able to wait 8h, you still have the option to have a less good video. wink

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
Strider,

Your screenshot shows that you are trying to make a render of 1000x750 pixels. To make sure your design is OK, make some preliminary renders at high (or highest) quality, but lower pixel setting, let's say 400x300 pixels. These should complete much, much faster. Once satisfied with your design, make your large picture during the night.

Also, your screenshot shows a non-standard texture on the floor, and an image on the wall that also has been imported. So, your computer IS showing imported (or user defined) textures. Are you sure that you applied the textures on the correct side of the wall?

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
Yes, these are non standard to reflect a bit better how my rooms are looking (blue is the carpet for example. still need to find a better patter heh) and wall is woodchip-texture.

hmm ok now thats strange. I was sure I tested the better qualities for the rendered image as well. Now it looks this way with 400x300 pixels and even with bigger sizes like 1024x768 it looks great now.

Thanks for the answers :)

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
Strider,

Good to know that it works now.

A tip: this kind of super-small patterned texture on the wall is really a waste of time. You might as well apply a colour, because you won't be able to see the difference. However, you WILL notice a big difference in render times: much, much shorter!
One more tip: use textures not bigger than 512x512 pixels, but certainly not bigger than 1024x1024 pixels. For some reason large textures cause problems.

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
SilentStrider, I found the origin of the problem you reported. It looks like a bug in Java 3D but I'm going to try to find a workaround.

well didn't want to make you too much work, but it's good that you're aware of it :)

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
This bug is fixed in version 3.1 beta. Please try it and confirm it works.
By the way, this correction should fix this old bug too!

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
Strider,

Beta versions are download-versions. Click the link above and the entire program is downloaded again. It should run directly. Every time you start the program again by clicking that same icon, the program checks whether the version is OK and then starts it. If your connection is erratic, you may experience problems.
(Or at least it's something very similar, based on my experience with the last 48 betas.)

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
but the downloaded file is only 4kb in size. And when I open it in editor it just shows a little java code *is a bit confused*

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
uh.. sorry my firewall was the reason (was set to "go away new programs"). do i need to run the programm now always with this file? or do i need to put it to some special place so it overwrites the current version of the program?

Strider,

Which operating system do you use?
Sounds as if it's Linux or Ubuntu...?

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
No I have Windows XP. when I run the downloaded file it works some and then I have the beta program, but when I close it and start the program as usual over the start menu its the un-beta again

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
Strider,

If the beta download puts an icon on your desktop, that icon is v3.1 and you should use that icon every time you start SH3D v3.1.

To start v3.0 you can use the "old" icon. Note that some plug-ins don't work with the beta versions. See the plug-in tutorial .

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
well it did not put an icon on my desktop, but i can make a shortcut to the beta-patch (even so it needs longer to start as it downloads the program every time, but doesn't tell me where or installs it)

so: starting SweetHome3D.exe gives me version 3.0
starting SweetHome3D.3.1.beta.jsnp needs a minute, then i have version 3.1 beta

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
just to show what I found out. The JSNP-File downloads everything into my temp folder

so it really downloads it every time again (deleting my temp-folder more often). any way to make it permanent?

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
Strider,

The behaviour you describe seems normal to me. I use Ubuntu, but v3.1 behaves the same.

I'm not a Windows specialist, but it seems to me that if you leave the files in your Temp directory, they won't be downloaded again. The small program checks whether everything is present, and if so, starts v3.1.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure Emmanuel will correct me when he reads this.

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
SilentStrider, the beta version isn't downloaded each time you launch it unless you refused the option to create an application for it. Anyway a beta version is a beta version and I don't want to spend more time on its installation mode.
Sorry to say that, but if it doesn't satisfy you, you should wait patiently the release (it won't happen before a while though).

Re: no user defined textures in image rendering?
I just wanted to know, if his behaviour is as it should be, no more no less :)

btw: yes, the beta fixes user defined textures in pictures with lower quality, at least for me
