Furniture Dimensions Plugin
Furniture Dimensions Plugin

Hi everyone,

I created a new plugin called Furniture Dimensions that automatically generates dimension lines for selected furniture pieces in Sweet Home 3D.

Main features:
• Add Width, Height, Depth, and Elevation dimensions
• Generate dimensions for each furniture item individually
• Generate total bounding box dimensions for multiple items
• Show or hide dimension lines in 3D
• Change the font size of dimension labels
• Delete selected dimension lines

How to use:

Select one or more furniture items

Open Tools → Furniture Dimensions

Choose the dimensions you want

Click Generate

Note: All cabinet doors must be closed before using the plugin.

I’ve attached the plugin file https://sourceforge.net/p/sweethome3d/plug-in.../FurnitureDimensions.sh3p and a short video demonstration.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome!

Re: Furniture Dimensions Plugin
Welcome aboard.
This is a very useful plugin.
I recommend that you include the version number in the plugin’s name and include the source code in the package (if possible).
I also recommend that you post the SweetHomeLights plugin in this section of the forum.
It is also a very useful plugin, but I would like to see a few improvements.

Congratulations on the plugins you’ve created!

Re: Furniture Dimensions Plugin
Thank you!

Here is the updated package that includes the version number in the plugin file name and the source code inside the package:

https://sourceforge.net/p/sweethome3d/plug-in...itureDimensions_v1.0.sh3p

For easier access, I have also uploaded the source code separately:

https://sourceforge.net/p/sweethome3d/plug-in...t/FurnitureDimensions.zip

Regarding the SweetHomeLights plugin (which I’m not completely satisfied with yet), I would prefer to post it at a later time, as I’m currently focusing on some other plugins that I consider more important.

Thanks again for your support and suggestions!

Best regards,
3D Logic Class

Re: Furniture Dimensions Plugin
I've tried both, and they work.
As for the SweetHomeLights plugin, I think it's more than good enough and deserves its own thread in this section.
I think it's a bit too complicated for people without much technical knowledge.
I'll share more thoughts in the new thread dedicated to this plugin.

Re: Furniture Dimensions Plugin
I tried the plugin and it is very useful for me. I normally use SH3D but under a different name (Optical Shop 3D) for business purposes. I use it for planning and editing optical shops. I work for the company Presenta Nova d.o.o. and I use our product database with which we equip opticians. I do not use SH3D for rendering, but only for the basic construction of the entire space that I edit and equip with our equipment. I then use it as an exporter to *.obj file, especially the space and especially the furniture. But for a client, a floor plan with the dimensions of the space and furniture is usually enough, unless they are looking for it in *.dwg format. Excellent plugin...

Re: Furniture Dimensions Plugin
Thank you all for your kind feedback and support!

I’m aware that the SweetHomeLights plugin still has some limitations. What discourages me the most at the moment is the rendering quality and workflow.

For this reason, I’ll probably revisit SweetHomeLights at a later stage.

At the moment, I’m focusing on developing two new plugins that I consider a higher priority. I’ll be happy to share them with you soon.

Thanks again for your suggestions and encouragement!

I agree, a very handy plugin that saves having to add individual dimensions. Instant accuracy, great!

Re: Furniture Dimensions Plugin
That’s a very interesting observation. Τhank you for pointing it out!

It’s something I didn’t take into account during the initial implementation, especially regarding side views.

I’ve noted it as a potential feature for a future update, as it would definitely improve usability in workflows involving section views.

At the moment, I need to stay focused on a larger free plugin project that I’ve been developing over the past few years. Both the Furniture Dimensions Plugin and the Material Selector Plugin https://www.sweethome3d.com/support/forum/viewthread_thread,14706 are actually inspired by this bigger project, although they are designed to work independently and can be useful in many different scenarios.

Thanks again for your valuable feedback!
