Unable to Start Sweet Home 3D After Installing Pan 3D View + Wiring 4.4 Beta 2
Subject: Unable to Start Sweet Home 3D After Installing Pan 3D View + Wiring 4.4 Beta 2

Hello everyone,

I recently tried to extend Sweet Home 3D (Windows 11 Pro, 64-bit) with the Wiring 4.4 Beta 2 plug-in. Since the author mentioned that it requires Pan 3D View > 3.0, I first installed Pan 3D View 3.3. The application confirmed that the plug-in would be available on the next restart.

Encouraged, I immediately installed Wiring 4.4 Beta 2 as well, which gave me the same confirmation. However, after restarting Sweet Home 3D, the program would no longer start. Instead, I now only receive the message asking me to install Pan 3D View – even though it is already installed.

At the moment I am unable to open Sweet Home 3D at all.
My questions are:

How can I recover Sweet Home 3D so it will start again?

Is there a safe way to remove the Wiring 4.4 plug-in without having to reinstall everything?

If necessary, how can I disable Pan 3D View as well? I would rather work without these extensions than risk losing access to the software.

I would be very grateful for any advice or clear steps to solve this issue.
Also, if this is a common problem, perhaps it could be highlighted in the forum so other users don’t run into the same difficulty.

Many thanks in advance for your support!

Best regards,
T_R

Re: Unable to Start Sweet Home 3D After Installing Pan 3D View + Wiring 4.4 Beta 2
You can remove a plugin by simply removing the .sh3p file from the 'plugins' directory that is located under the Sweet Home 3D directory. This is a hidden directory so you will have to switch its visibility in your filemanager.
On the FAQ page you can find where that directory is, search for "files and folders separated from the program".

Start with only removing the Wirings plugin and see if you can start Sweet Home 3D now. If you can start without the Wirings plugin then try an older version of that plugin. It is possible that the latest version doesn't work with your Sweet Home 3D 6.2 version.

Try the latest 7.5 version of Sweet Home 3D. I doubt that is slower than your 6.2 version and you have less chance of running into compatibility problems in the long run. You can make a backup of the previously mentioned directory to restore it if a new install cleans up that directory.

Hello Kiet,

thank you so much for your super-fast and very clear reply – I really appreciate it!

Re: Unable to Start Sweet Home 3D After Installing Pan 3D View + Wiring 4.4 Beta 2
Hello Kiet,

thank you again for your help and the detailed explanation. I checked the path on my Windows 11 system, and the plugin directory is located at:

C:\Users[Username]\Sweet Home 3D\plugins

I can see my installed plugins there, but unfortunately none of the ones I wanted to remove (Wiring 4.4 Beta 2 or Pan 3D View) are actually in that folder. That makes me wonder if there might be another location where Sweet Home 3D keeps them.

For now, I’ve created a backup of the entire folder, just in case. But since I couldn’t find the mentioned plugins, I am still stuck and unable to restart Sweet Home 3D.

Would you have any idea where else these plugins might be stored, or how I could completely remove them from the installation? Any further guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for your patience and support – it really helps a lot!

Best regards BTW : my Footer about Laptop is outdatet. I run win11pro 64 bit, IBM Thinkpad 490, in Germany( unfourtunatly) will update soon

Re: Unable to Start Sweet Home 3D After Installing Pan 3D View + Wiring 4.4 Beta 2
@ Keet,
(sorry typo before)
thank you once again for your guidance – it really helps to have such clear instructions.
I discovered another directory on my system:

C:\Users[User]\Application Data\eTeks\Sweet Home 3D\plugins

In that folder I finally found the Wiring 4.4 file and removed it. Interestingly, none of these folders were hidden on my Windows 11 system, so maybe that detail could be updated for other users too.

Unfortunately, after removing the file, Sweet Home 3D still shows the same message asking me to install the required plugin, and it refuses to start. So I’m still stuck at this point.

Would you have any further ideas what I could try next? I would be very grateful for any additional help. Your support is really appreciated – without it I would be completely lost.

Best regards,

Re: Unable to Start Sweet Home 3D After Installing Pan 3D View + Wiring 4.4 Beta 2
I don't know anything about Windows but that you found two different directories with plugins seems wrong. It could happen that Pan3DView is installed in one and the Wirings in the other. Then the Wirings plugin will not find the Pan3DView plugin.

Copy both plugins in only one of the directories. If that works OK, if not then move them both to the other directory. If that works you have found the directory that is the correct one for your current Sweet Home 3D. Now it should work.

ETA: Once you can start Sweet Home 3D you can easily find the correct directory: Menu > Help > About. Click the button "Libraries".
This will display a dialog with three lists. The bottom list shows the installed plugins. If you click one it should take you to the directory where it is installed. It is one of the two directories you found with plugins.

Re: Unable to Start Sweet Home 3D After Installing Pan 3D View + Wiring 4.4 Beta 2
Hello Keet,

thank you once again for your patience and guidance. I realize I might be reaching the limits of Microsoft-related knowledge here, and I hope that some other experienced forum members might be able to chime in with advice and practical tips.

I’m especially concerned about the alternative: even if I uninstall and reinstall everything, how can I safely preserve all my add-ons and libraries? There is a huge amount of data, and I would like to avoid having to reinstall or download everything from scratch. Copying everything back blindly might also reintroduce errors if some system references or paths are involved, since the error message must be coming from somewhere.

Any additional help, suggestions, or insights would be deeply appreciated. Thanks so much again for your time and support – it really means a lot!

Best regard

I like your signature smile So, don't give up!
As Keet I'm also not a Windows fan but I know some basic things about how the computers works.
My suggestion:
1. To preserve the current installation with all add-ons:
Rename the eTeks folder to eTeksBak(or whatever)
2. Install the official version 7.5 from this site(not from MS store)
3. Test it WITHOUT any furniture, texture or plugins.(try 32 or 64bit)
4. Go to your eTeksBak\Sweet Home 3D folder and copy the furniture and texture folders to your new installation
5. For the plugins you will have to test it one-by-one to see which one break your program and delete it.
That's what my unique neuron could produce crying

Re: Unable to Start Sweet Home 3D After Installing Pan 3D View + Wiring 4.4 Beta 2
Creating a backup of everything you have now is easy but it possibly requires a lot of disk space. Backup to an external drive with enough diskspace.

What you must backup:

1 - The Sweet Home 3D directory you just found. Backup the complete Sweet Home 3D directory but the
minimum you should backup is:
- the Preferences.xml file
- the directories "plugins", "libraries", "textures", and "languages"
- all the .pref files (you can zip them to one file)
- if they exist: the pan3dview.xml file and the "PluginManager" directory
The "work" and "recovery" directories should be empty if Sweet Home 3D is not running. They will be created when Sweet Home 3D is (re-)installed.

2 - Your projects and downloaded models. These should be safe when you install a new Sweet Home 3D but of course they are lost when you reinstall Windows. It is wise to make regular backups of these anyway. Or at least add the new and changed files to your existing backup.

After a new install of Windows you first install Sweet Home 3D.
Then you go to the newly created Sweet Home 3D directory and restore backup 1 to it.
Then you create a new directory for your projects and downloads and restore backup 2 to that directory.
You should create the new projects/download directories with the same name and location as you have them now. That way you will not have any path issues.

If you only install a new version of Sweet Home 3D (7.5) then follow what dorin wrote.
