I am having trouble doing roofing Hello friends. I am drawing prefabricated houses. I have made many roofs before, but I was able to do all of them, but I cannot make this roof. Can you help me? |

The last two pictures in the visual are the roof and the veranda that I want to make. I cannot make the continuation on the upper part of the roof. Second option: post a link to your file and I'll make the roofs for you. Re: I am having trouble doing roofing I could do it BUT I'll have to make some modifications. Anyway I will make a different file with some needed levels and the roofs. So, I'll help you but not really over night. I'll do my best(or very close). 1. You miss the ground floor. Without it you don't have room for veranda. 2. In your plan you don't specify where you want the veranda to be. In the pictures it appear at two sides at around 1.5 to 2.0 meters. Believe me or not: HARD!I've used a personal version of GR but, even so, wasn't easy for me. It is very unstable and give unexpected results. It took me a couple of hours. please help me learn for the other roofs Roofs and stairs have their own difficult principles and difficulties.Before this you have to learn and exercise more with the base of this program which is fool of default capabilities. I still discover it. From start few suggestions: 1. Learn and use levels. 2. Decide your rules for grouping furniture. 3. Exercise with align and distribute furniture functions. 4. Remember: For a good house you need a precise 2D and 3D plan. Specifically at roofs: If you read this post and the accordingly tutorials you could do with your current version of plugin. If you like to live on the edge, you can use the green About button in the plugin. When I create a group of boxes and want to change the size of that group collectively, the size of all of them is different. How can I solve this? My second question is that I added a lot of add-ons to the sweet home 3D program and I don't want to lose them. How can I protect sweet home 3D in this state, how can I back it up? Thank you. |

Re: I am having trouble doing roofing Plugins are are stored in the home directory in a subdirectory named '.eteks' (that is on Linux, on other systems probably something similar and it's a hidden directory so check that these are visible). Under that directory there is a subdirectory sweethome3d/plugins. Just backup the files in that directory. Actually, only the plugin manager plugin is necessary since with that plugin it is easy to install the other plugins. With the boxes: if grouped they should all resize with the same percentage, not with a fixed number. Make sure you select the group and not the individual boxes. If that doesn't work you can use the resize function. I think it's a feature of the advanced edit plugin. And if THAT still doesn't work you can select all boxes and export/import them. Re: I am having trouble doing roofing It's very simple: Create 4 boxes, one 200 wide, one 30 wide, one 70 wide, and one 100 wide. Give all boxes a depth of 100 and give each box a different color. Place the 30, 70, and 100 wide boxes under the 200 wide box. Now group all 4 boxes. This should result in a 200x200 square of boxes. The group has a handle on one of the corners with which you can resize the group. While you do that you can see what happens in the 3D view. All boxes resize and the width of the top box and the combined three smaller boxes remains te same. You can also use the modify dialog on the group. If you change the width to 400 the width of the bottom three boxes will change to 60, 140, 200, and the top box will be 400 wide. Notice that objects grouped in an angle can sometimes give strange results when resizing. Re: I am having trouble doing roofing I don't know how the directory structure on Windows is organized. I am on Linux and from looking at the images some things seem different. Generally there are two parts: the Sweet Home 3D installation and your projects. The Sweet Home 3D installation should be the same if you re-install or install on a different machine. There are some things that you will miss like the last used colors/textures in the modify dialogs. On Linux it is no problem to completely copy the install directory as a backup but I don't know if that would work on Windows. From what I remember from many, many years ago Windows does some registry things which makes simple copying not enough. On my Linux install plugins are simply copied to a plugin directory. I don't know if that is the same on Windows. Your projects remain where they are, if you did it right they are NOT included in the Sweet Home 3D directory tree but in a separate directory you created yourself. You can back up your projects by simply copying them to a backup directory. Your Autodimensioning is outdated(probably the 1.1 version). Now is at 1.6. 3. The manual need also to be updated. Install Sweet Home 3D on another computer and install one plugin: Plugin manager . As the name says it is a manager for plugins. It makes it very easy to install other plugins and it alerts you if there is a new version of a plugin. I suggest you to install Plugins manager from here or here . 2. Depend of your OS. The SH3D is installed under eteks folder. There you have sweethome3d folder with other folders and files. Backup (copy) the sweethome3d folder on other place(eventually on a portable stick). It has a caption "Fine (0.1°)". Indeed, the tutorial was made whit a more earlier version and it need some updates. But the principles remains valuable.
