roof plugin is grayed out!?
Hi: The only plugin that does NOT work is GenerateRoof v.3.0.
I installed and re-installed it several times, re-launching the software every time, with te same result:
--I always get the message: "Plug-in was successfully imported. Its features will be available in Sweet Home 3D at its next launch."
--After re-launch, it is always in the Tools menu, but it is grayed out!
--All the other plugins work just fine.
--And I should be ready with a house next Monday, but I can't without a roof.
Please, help.

What about reading its user's guide?

Re: roof plugin is grayed out!?
Hi: Thanks, but in the so-called "user's guide" there is nothing about why the tool is grayed out in the menu, or what to do then.

Re: roof plugin is grayed out!?
The first step in the manual: "Select a room (manually made or trough Autodimensioning)."
If you don't have a room (or previous generated roof) selected the menu item is grayed out. Draw and select a room and you will see the menu item.

"When all else fails, read the instructions."

Re: roof plugin is grayed out!?
What if you use GenrateRoof version 4.5 in place of 3.0?
Is there also a
so-called "user's guide"
If even this is not satisfactory for start, probably is time for me to give up and let others to write tutorials.

Re: roof plugin is grayed out!?
Thanks! The problem is that I am an architect. I do not think in rooms, I think in structures. I have done several multi-storey building with SH3D without creating a single room. This is strange thinking for me.
--Thank you very much for your insight, the Generate Roof is showing up when I created a room. Although I don't know what to do with a room. I mean, I want to get a roof for a building, not for a room... :-)

Re: roof plugin is grayed out!?
You create a temporary room for defining the outline of your roof. It is not a literal room. Once the roof is generated, you can delete the "room".

Re: roof plugin is grayed out!?
You can delete the room after you generated the roof. It is no longer needed. You can select the generated roof instead of the room if you want to make adjustments. It will generate a new roof when you're done.

If you want to save the room but don't want to see it in your plan: create a new level at the same elevation and move the room to that level. Then make the level invisible. You will no longer see the room and still have it available if you need it.

An invisible level is a good place to save all kinds of objects you might need later but don't want to see in your current plan. Make sure the level is visible if you want to move furniture to it. You can't copy furniture/rooms/walls to an invisible level.

Re: roof plugin is grayed out!?
I'm not an architect but usually I draw walls (structure) first and insert the rooms after.
The "rooms" are 3D objects wile has high (the level high) and ceiling.
I want to get a roof for a building, not for a room
1. You could use AutoDimensioning to get the roof projection (a room biggrin )
Suggestion: Read also at the binging of tread to see how it work.
2. Select the roof projection and use GenerateRoof.

...without creating a single room...
And how you calculate the area?? Manually??
I'm still not an architect but a plan need to have dimensions and surfaces for every closed space.
