shock   "Tools" menu and panel missing from all installations - is there a "Configuration Manager"?
There is no "Tools" menu on my installation of Sweet Home 3D.

I installed SweetHome3D from the Windows Store on Windows 10 Professional. It appears to have failed. There is no uninstaller or location given in the Program and Features. SweetHome3D appears in Windows 10 Settings panel under "Apps & Features", but there is no location given. In general, the Windows Store for technical professionals. The Windows Store uses a very bad design practice of hiding storage locations for executables.

I checked using the Control Panel: "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features" but neither "eTeks" nor "SweetHome3D" is showing (for the Windows Store-installed version). I will try rebooting again to see if it appears in the "Program and Features" control panel.

I then did a portable installation, but there is no "Tools" menu showing there either when I launch the portable version.

I need to know where to copy plugins and other files. This is rather annoying and frustrating. I need the SideView and Autodimensioning plugins to get my project bills of materials and dimensions done.

SweetHome3D needs a configuration manager that is more sophisticated than the "Preferences..." menu dialog that tells me where its program(s) furniture libraries, templates are located.

There is no "Tools" menu in any installation of Sweet Home 3D.
Please, don't create a new thread about your issue with plug-ins installation, this won't help.

Late answer but the tools menu show up when you create the plugin folder

Re: "Tools" menu and panel missing from all installations - is there a "Configuration Manager"?
Almost a year later from the previous post, I have installed V7.2 on to my Ubuntu 22.04 workstation and have run several of the configuration process suggested in this forum and in the User Documentation.

I have created the .eteks directory in my home directory, my usr/home, under the opt/sweetHome3D-7.2 directory, and several of the sub directories. but still no Tools menu or way to access the needed plug-ins.

I have now taken 2 days trying to get the plugins/add-ons working on my install. No luck. HELP!

The easiest and safest way to install a plug-in under Linux is to run Sweet Home 3D from the command line followed by the path of the plug-in to install. Read this page for more information.

Re: "Tools" menu and panel missing from all installations - is there a "Configuration Manager"?
I have Read the plug in page. I have dbl clicked on the .sh3p files, select "run with another application" and select sweet home app. I then get a pop-up telling me that the plug-in was successfully import and will be available on next launch. The good news is that I have a Tools menu now, but only 1 plug-in shows.

I have installed 6 plug-ins this way, but only 2 shows on the Tool Menu.

You already have a library import that seems to work, why not create a plug-in install routine also. It has to be almost the same.

You could try the plugin manager, you have to install it manually, but then it will let you search and install other plugins with a user friendly interface directly from sweet home 3d.

https://sourceforge.net/p/sweethome3d/plug-ins/44/
Be sure to peek the latest version.

Also note that not all plugins have an entry under the tools menu, you have to learn how to use them reading the information on the plugin page or forum posts.

Re: "Tools" menu and panel missing from all installations - is there a "Configuration Manager"?
Thanks for recommending the plugin manager. That was a MUCH easier way of dealing with plugins.

The Plugin Manager explained why several of the plugins never showed up in the Tools Menu. It seems that several of the plugins do not work on Version 7.2. This is unfortunate because I need the roof generator.

You have been VERY helpful.

Doesn't it work or don't you see it in the tools menu?
You must have a room selected before the Roof Generator appears in the menu. It uses the room to create the roof.

The roof generator does not install. I get the message: 'This plugin does not work with this version of Sweethome3D'.

I received that message from 3 or 4 plugins after installing the plugin manager.

Re: "Tools" menu and panel missing from all installations - is there a "Configuration Manager"?
IMHO you use the repository version of SH3D.
WRONG! as I've explained several times on this forum.
I've conclude this around 10 years ago.
Under linux, any kind of, use the installer provided by the original creator from HERE .
FORGET THE REPOSITORY in the SH3D case.
Read and fallow the instructions.
In this way you will avoid a lot of headaches.
If this is not the case, post here the terminal output to see what happen.

Re: "Tools" menu and panel missing from all installations - is there a "Configuration Manager"?
For my first install of Sweethome3D, I installed the snap version V6.6 through the Ubuntu Application installer. After the first series of problems I had, I removed that installation then installed the V7.2 from http://www.sweethome3d.com/download.jsp following the instructions you posted some time ago. It was on that install that I installed the Plugin Manager and discovered that several of the plugins (including roof generator) are not compatible with V7.2.

In an attempt to get a version that the Roof Generator will work on, I removed the V7.2 installation and reinstall the Snap version V6.6. I am still getting the error message:

Re: "Tools" menu and panel missing from all installations - is there a "Configuration Manager"?
Ok.
In this case verify in Help->About to see your SH3D version.
The Roof Generator work with >=7.2 so you probably still run an older version.
If you have a shortcut for launch verify the path.

This is what help->about tells me:

Re: "Tools" menu and panel missing from all installations - is there a "Configuration Manager"?
Great!
You still run 6.6.
If you really fallow the official instructions (OR mine) on how to install on linux,
go in the extracted folder SweetHome3D-7.2 and run the SweetHome3D file
(usually double-click on it and choose execute OR run as a program).
After launch check again the version.
You must have 7.2.
If that's true, update all settings related with SH3D (shortcut, file association, menu entry etc.)
To be sure, you could move (delete) the old folder (SweetHome3D-6.6) and you will see whats works and whats don't (shortcuts).

If you get black artifacts on Linux use the script SweetHome3D-Java3D-1_5_2 instead of SweetHome3D to start SweetHome3D.
