Fractional option for Imperial unit measurements Fractional option for Imperial unit measurements. Amongst the various frustrations the single most cumbersome is the inch/decimal unit selection. I draw [custom] furniture plans and the fabricator needs to have the measurements in inches and fractions. The foot/inches/fractions setting is for that purpose useless. Since imperial measurements are rarely expressed in decimals after the. It would be most helpful and useful to have the option to set it to inch/fraction. It would greatly increase the usefulness if this could be implemented in the next release. |

Re: Fractional option for Imperial unit measurements Why am I getting an email notification years later about this? As for: "What about using metric system like the rest of the world?" Do you want to retrain an entire nation of 330 million? |

Re: Fractional option for Imperial unit measurements To clarify any confusion: [Oct 16, 2021] My request "Re: Fractional option for Imperial unit measurements" to implement SAE/Imperial inch/fraction. [Oct 17, 2021] A snarky snide reply about "...using metric* system like the rest of the world" In the mean time in July 2022 an updated version is released which also has the feature implemented. (Thank you!) 2 years later, Aug 13, 2023, AM a message that the "The Inch/Fraction unit was added in version 7.0" I however upgraded to 7.0 over a year ago and by March 2023 I'm at version 7.1 [Aug 13, 2023] My reply: "Why am I getting an email notification years later about this? As for: "What about using metric system like the rest of the world?" Do you want to retrain an entire nation of 330 million?" [Aug 13, 2023] A reply with quotes: Because this forum gently sends you a notification when a new post appears in the thread you wrote. If you don't want to receive such notifications go to ..." & Read my last post" The reference quotes subjects: "Re: Fractional option for Imperial unit measurements " and "Do you want to retrain an entire nation of 330 million?" [Aug 14, 2023] So this forum "gently sends notifications..." you write...., well 2 years later is indeed very gentle! With again a subtle indirect remark about using the metric system. The one from over 2 years ago? To be clear: I live in the United States. I grew up in Europe. I know the metric system well and it would be my choice. The United States unfortunately uses the SAE/Imperial system. Only the science community such as i.e. NASA etc. uses the metric system. Everything else not. The metric versus Imperial system use has its anecdotes. The most infamous one, the September 1999 Mars Climate Orbiter. Too much to write here, you can read all on the web. As I cannot change the United States to implement the metric system, I need to measure and draw in their system. Would I use the metric system most would understand it or read it properly and those who would try likely make a lot of mistakes. Therefore: "When in Rome do as the Romans do" So your somewhat snide slightly cynical remark does not help. Neither is it a good tone to set client/customer/user relations. Nevermind that it took you almost 2 years to respond to it! Prouver que j’ai raison serait accorder que je puis avoir tort. ![]() |

Re: Fractional option for Imperial unit measurements Hi 411621, part of the reason for the delay/delayed response could be fond here. TC. Mike http://www.sweethome3d.com/support/forum/viewthread_thread,12081 |
