confused   Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
Hey all,

I'm trying to import models from SketchUp, and I'm experiencing freezing. I've left SH3D running overnight and nothing happens.

To repeat in SH3D:

* Open a new file
* Choose "Import furniture..." from the context menu
* Choose the .dae model from the finder (the model loads fine)
* Hit "Continue >"

Every time, with any model, the import wizard freezes SH3D on the "Model Orientation" screen.

I hoped using the furniture editor would resolve this, but the second I try to add a .dae model to a library, the Furniture Editor freezes, too.

Unfortunately, this means I can only add pre-packaged SH3D libraries - argh!

My platform is as follows:

* MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) running macOS 11.12.1 (Big Sur)
* 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 Processor
* 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 RAM
* AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB Graphics Card
* Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB Graphics CArd

My software information is as follows:

* SH3D v15.0.2 (64bit)
* Furniture Library Editor v1.26
* Java v15.0.1
* Java 3D v1.6.1
* JOGL 2.4.0-rc-20210111

Any ideas would be extremely appreciated! Thank you so much.

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
You seem to experience the issue reported in the bug #1015.

I wished that a long beta test period would have helped to detect this kind of issue but it doesn’t seem to have been enough sad

Did you try with previous versions of Sweet Home 3D and Furniture Library Editor?

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
Possibly! Thank you - I'm going to try moving my folder to a non-managed space (I'm currently using DropBox) and will see if that helps... will report back.

If I can do anything to help debug, I'm happy to - fellow Java programmer with an afflicted machine here!

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
I don’t think it could be bound to DropBox, but trying with an older version would be helpful. Thanks!

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
My SH3D freezes on furniture import wizard too. I'm importing .zip file that was downloaded from free 3D models page. Same as OP, model orientation screen causes freeze.

I was importing objects without any problem, then one object (I think it was the cat one) caused freeze.

Importing furniture libraries doesn't cause any problems.

I'm on MacOS 10.15.7, Sweet Home 3D 6.5

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
I've been trying to import both cats with Sweet Home 3D 6.5 under macOS 10.15.7, and didn't encounter any issue. There must be another problem.
Does it crash with the first imported model or after you import more models?

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
The Cat model wasn't the first one I imported. Didn't have any problems before that. After that any model i tried (all downloaded from free 3D models page) caused crash.

Also when I tried to Modify Furniture (previously successfully imported model), I got a crash.

There doesn't seem to be problem on first page on import wizard. Model loads fine and I can rotate it. When I click continue, on the second any of the views load and application doesn't respond, doesn't close without force quit.

--

I uninstalled app (with preferences), installed it again, imported (i think all) furniture libraries from download page. The cat model loads fine in 2d and 3d view. But when I just tried if it happens again with the Cat model and it crashed again.

Also this time after the force quit, MacOS gave a crash report. But log is 29353 lines lol. How can I send it to the forum?

Send your log to me. But if you got that log after you forced Sweet Home 3D to quit, I’m not sure it will be useful. Any other log when it crashes at import time?

Sent the mail now. If I recall correctly, crash report came after I force quit but I'll try to reproduce it again to see if I get any other report.

I checked Console and these happen as I click Continue and application crash.

Also I think crash report generated at the same time but MacOS shows the report after application is force quit.

Thanks for the log you sent but it is not very useful unfortunately.

But the log line in the screen shot about a missing entitlement com.apple.security.automation.apple-events could be interesting if you could tell me what you were doing when this line was emitted, even if I'm not sure it's bound the crash.

But now I checked console since application startup and these two errors from tccd process when I open the application showed up 25 seconds apart.

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
Hi,
I'm having the exact same issue.

Program freezes when getting to the model orientation screen. Happens for both .dae and .obj files (which work fine on my windows version).

I get the "spinning beachball" forever and that's it. No crash report, nothing. I also checked my logs, but could not find any of the messages that kutlu9 referred to above. The only messages related to SweetHome appear directly after I start the program:

I just created another version 6.5.2 based on Java 15 and JOGL 2.3.2 available here (68 MB). It will run with Rosetta 2 with Mac M1 but as some of you have problems with Mac Intel too, it could worth a try to check if the issue you encountered comes from the change of Java or JOGL versions.

Thanks for your test. So the problem probably comes from JOGL 2.4.0 or the way to use it.
Could you also try the version 6.5.2a [edit: removed link] where I made a small change (this version will run natively on Mac M1)?

Hope to read the results of the tests of other users too. Please, give some feedback because I still didn't find any way to reproduce this issue.

Actually workaround for me is to use the jar version, import the furniture and then you can use it in the bundled version.

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
I released yesterday a Mac App Store version 6.5.5 that should fix the issues that some of you recently encountered on Mac Intel. This version is bundled with Oracle Java 8.0_202 and JOGL 2.3.2 for x86_64 architecture and Zulu OpenJDK 15.0.2 and JOGL 2.4.0 RC 20210110 for arm64 architecture. I would have preferred to use OpenJDK 15 for both architectures but that prevents from creating a universal application which uses two different versions of JOGL (maybe I'll find another solution).
Users who still have problems under Mac M1 may run the program with Rosetta where the bug shouldn't appear (there's an option for this purpose In the Finder Information dialog box of Sweet Home 3D app).

From the different reports I got, the bug is probably a deadlock due to some changes in JOGL 2.4 required to run with recent macOS toolkit, but as I'm not the developer of this library and moreover, as I never experienced this issue myself, it might take more time to fix it and I preferred to release now this version to reduce the number of hindered users.

I developed a free version bundled with the same Java and JOGL versions too, but as it weights 30 MB more and can't be notarized, I prefer to not distribute it at the moment and in case of problems, I recommend to switch to the version 6.5.2 based on JOGL 2.3.2 (68 MB) that I released a few weeks ago. At least, users of the free version may install the version of their choice which is not the case of the Mac App Store version.

Thank you so much for this fix. I am brand new to SH3D, and was excited yesterday to discover the libraries. Yet like others I encountered the beach ball of death for the application upon importing a .dae model with what I thought was the latest version. Your fix worked.

Hi Emmanuel,
I am using version 7.0 (non app store) on a Mac M1 and experience the same issue (app freezes) when importing a .obj model. I've also tried to force the app to run in rosetta mode, did not help.
My current workaround is:
1. Launch older version: SweetHome3D-6.6-macosx-jogl-2.3.2
2. Import .obj model
3. Launch current version - model can be used

Btw:I just wanted to thank you for the app, its so helpful for me right now! I absolutely appreciate the active communication and development as well!

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
For your information, I made some tests under macOS 13 Ventura which should be released in the coming days, and Sweet Home 3D versions based on JOGL RC 2.3.2 (like the ones mentioned in this thread) didn't work anymore under this system.
Therefore, if you encounter an issue while importing 3D models and use Sweet Home 3D versions based on JOGL RC 2.3.2 to circumvent it, you shouldn't rush on Ventura.

Trying to reproduce this bug to fix it, I also made some tests on some recent iMac, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro running with an ARM processor under macOS 12.6 and didn't have any problem to import a 3D model on them. I conclude that some interactions with some other software might provoke this bug. Don't hesitate to post any clue which could help.

Finally, I released today a new version 7.0.5 in the Mac App Store which uses JOGL 2.4.0 under Intel and ARM processors to prevent users from being unable to launch Sweet Home 3D under macOS Ventura (version 7.0.3 used JOGL RC 2.3.2 under Intel processors and JOGL 2.4.0 under ARM processors).

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
A patient macOS user found the application which caused Sweet Home 3D to crash at the second step of furniture import wizard or in the materials modification dialog box.
It's BetterSnapTool and as soon as you stop this program, Sweet Home 3D doesn’t hang anymore. So if you use BetterSnapTool or a similar one like Magnet, Rectangle, Moom... disable them when you want to import a 3D model or modify materials.

Being able to reproduce this bug myself is going to help a lot to fix it. Meanwhile, I'll be happy to read if stopping these tools helped you too.

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
After some investigations, I found how to really fix the bug which prevented to go beyond the first step of the furniture import wizard when an application like BetterSnapTool or Rectangle is running. You can test it with Sweet Home 3D 7.0.2d which comes with the updated version 2.4.0-rc-20221118 of JOGL library (if interested, see this technical post).
This correction should work from macOS 10.14 to the last macOS version. For older versions, you'll have to quit BetterSnapTool, Rectangle or the like until further notice.
I'm looking forward to reading your tests.

Thank you! I've been tearing my hair out trying to figure out what was going on with SH3D. I'm running the current App Store build on a 2015 3.3 GHz Core i7 iMac with 16 GB RAM. Precisely the same issue that has been described here before. But I don't have anything like BTT or Rectangle running.
Furniture> Import > Furniture > Choose MOdel > Continue then at the second screen of the Furniture import wizard, it freezes. I have to force quit SH3D.
The issue started about two weeks ago. I was running the previous version of macOS and SH3D 7.1; upgrading both to the latest version didn't solve the issue.
Sonoma is 14.1.1

Re: Freezing in SH3D and Furniture Editor importing models
I crash whenever I try to import furniture as of late.

Crash occurs when it gives the thumbnail previews and tells me to verify faces are facing the correct direction. It never loads the preview, it just beachballs endlessly.

I've tried with .obj, .dae, .3ds files.

I don't have Grammarly Desktop, I don't have Rectangle, I don't have BetterSnapTool, I *do* have Magnet (but it's exited), I don't have anything else running that I could think of.

I tried upgrading to 7.5, was previously on an older version.

I'm exasperated. I cannot find a workaround.
