3D printing... Hi there, I read with great interest last years' thread on 3D printing and I wonder if Emmanuel or others have experimented with 3D printing or if export of models to 3D printable formats is on the horizon. Thanks! |

Re: 3D printing... As far as I know, the most used file format for 3D printing is STL and there are some OBJ to STL converters on the web, so it could worth a try. Re: 3D printing... Most slicer software can directly import OBJ files, so no need to convert. But if you scale down a building, the walls will be too thin to print. This means you have to first cheat thicker walls in SH3D and then you will be able to print it. But most of the furniture will be too filigree to be printed... Re: 3D printing... This is my experience in 3D printing. The problem I encountered during the process are (1) No floor thickness on Level 0 (I can't control the value as in upper levels) (2) I can't directly open *.obj file to slicer app (Creality Slice 4.8) These are the steps I use to encounter both problems : (1) Create floor on BricsCAD (2) Export as *.dae (3) Import as furniture into SH3D (4) Select the parts that I'd like to print > 3D View > Export as obj (5) Import the *.obj : using FreeCAD 0.19 > Import > Alias Mesh (Mesh) (6) Select object as necessary > File > Export > *.stl (7) Import the *.stl to slicer app, set the necessary parameters as needed and print I hope my experience will help other SH3D users. Re: 3D printing... I think the first two steps are not necessary. If you want to give a thickness to your floor in the exported OBJ file, just create a level and change its elevation with a negative value.
