New user questions A few questions from a new user.. I'm on Ubunutu 8.10 x64 1. Models ... I downloaded/extracted 3DSW and it runs. I also have the models file (3DModels-KatorLegaz-1.0.1.zip) which are supposed to go in .eteks/sweethome3d/furniture of the user folder. This folder does not exist... should I create it? And/or is there any install/configuration I need to do? 2. Homes & Rooms... Is a 'home' just a SW3D file I save - or is there something more to a 'home'? Is a 'Room' just an area calculation? If I want a colored floor in a room (ie 4 walls) should I create the walls and the 'Room'? Seems like walls/room could be derived from each other instead of manually creating each. 3. Color/Texture: The color wheel selection and the color in the 3d view seem different - what affects this? 4. Crash: 3DSW closed while I was clicking a Room corner - no messages on the screen and it restarted fine. Any ideas why, or how I can understand/prevent this reoccuring? thanks [Note: this thread was started on sourceforge.net forums] |

Re: New user questions 1. You don't need to create the folder .eteks/sweethome3d/furniture . Install the SH3F file contained in 3DModels-KatorLegaz-1.0.1.zip with the menu Furniture > Import furniture library... 2. A home is a SH3F file. For rooms management, please read http://www.sweethome3d.eu/userGuide.html#drawingRooms or help. Once the walls are drawn, you can create a room with a simple double-click. 3. The color may look different because of the light. Light management isn't perfect in Sweet Home 3D yet. You can change light brightness with 3D view dialog. Read http://www.sweethome3d.eu/userGuide.html#editing3DView 4. Any 3D program may crash. Update the drivers of your video card and save often your document. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: New user questions The help referes to "Creating with a double-click - a room that includes an half doorstep" - does a half doorstep mean 1/2 the original thickness? Re the crash - would there be any log entries about the crash? I looked at a few logs but I did not see any reference to java/3dsw... and I'm not sure where/what to look for. Thanks for your help. |

Re: New user questions "half doorstep" means half of the wall area on the floor where the door is placed. I hoped the drawing explaining this feature in the help was clear enough... :-( In case of a crash, Java logs are stored in hs_err_pidxxxx.log files where xxxx is a number. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |
