I had this idea in mind from the first day I added textures support in Sweet Home 3D. Creating the texture images available in Sweet Home 3D took me quite a lot time and I would be glad to propose the images created by other contributors.
My main concern about sharing textures is copyright issues. Believe me, many people just don't understand that redistributing or even using an image found on the Internet is legal only if the author of that image authorizes you to do it.
Maybe, using the same redistribution channel as 3D models would create an efficient copyright barrier, because it would oblige contributors to understand that they must be the author of the images they propose.
But this makes more work for me because I must update web pages accordingly when a contributor proposes a new image.
What do you think?
I'm open to any idea.
By the way, I don't know if you saw that message during Sweet Home 3D 2.3 development, but I added support for SH3T files which are dedicated to textures libraries, like SH3F files are dedicated to furniture libraries.
