thank you very much for your suggestion but I have tried that before and it doesn't work for Ubuntu 13.04. Opening Preferences still causes a crash.
Sweethome3D v.4.2a worked flawlessly on my Ubuntu 12.04 without installing Oracle Java JDK (..OpenJDK 6 and 7 and IcedTea Java installed). Under Ubuntu 13.04 no version seems to be working (I tried version 4.0, 4.1, 4.2) with or without the Oracle Java exercise. I hate thinking of reinstalling Ubuntu 12.04 as it would take a couple of days
..My advice to anyone using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS: Don't replace it with Ubuntu 13.04, if you want to keep using Sweethome3D!
