applause Best to make Furniture Library Editor support .kmz format file~

Best to make Furniture Library Editor support .kmz format file
Otherwise, OBJ cannot support texture description for Chinese characters
And the .kmz file is smaller and more convenient

The Furniture Library Editor already accepts KMZ files! Maybe you tried a file that isn't supported, in which case it would be nice to indicate where to get it.

Re: Best to make Furniture Library Editor support .kmz format file~

I mean, although KMZ can be imported, the editor is saved in obj format
That's the problem. Obj format doesn't need to be enlarged and doesn't support Chinese texture identification
I mean the editor doesn't change the imported object.KMZ has always been KMZ

Re: Best to make Furniture Library Editor support .kmz format file~

The texture map file The advantage of the external link is that a few textures can be shared by thousands of objects. This can greatly save the hard disk space occupied by the furniture library.
My furniture library has more than 4000 items.
The current situation is that even if some objects use the same texture map file, they are saved separately in the furniture library file into different files. Too wasteful hard drive size.

345345.kmz is a special file...

Indeed! Is a compression of kml file.
kml are used for gps devices and other gps aplications.
In Your archive You have a dae file which try to locate the map on Your computer. Share it with entire world and we could see Your work and many other interesting things!
Too wasteful hard drive size.

If in this times You have a problem with storage space You could delete few HD movies or buy another SSD (anyway, all's are produced in Your country).
The real waste was the 20 MINUTES to load Your tree from kmz.
if some objects use the same texture map file, they are saved separately in the furniture library file into different files.

You could edit the mtl file to point where You want.
I don't know how to do this with dae or other kind of file made under WIN10.
A friendly advice: Don't try to make a 3D map of China with SH3D but...
Good luck!

Re: Best to make Furniture Library Editor support .kmz format file~

I'll update the Furniture Library Editor to avoid transforming KMZ files to OBJ format in a coming version.

But the tree model you posted is the kind of model that Sweet Home 3D isn't able to handle correctly on my computer. Don't you also experience such slowdowns that it's almost unusable? I'll try to think again about how to optimize it, but it can't be easily done. This has nothing to do with the transformation to OBJ format. if you import the KMZ file in Sweet Home 3D itself, it won't be transformed to OBJ format in the SH3D file and it will run even slower.

About the texture map, I guess you mean that you would prefer that texture images are not saved within a SH3D file. Sorry but don't hope anything for this proposal. This would break the portability of SH3D files, as soon as you would transfer them or move the images to another place.

Re: Best to make Furniture Library Editor support .kmz format file~

@Dorin, unfortunately we posted at the same time.

In YGYL's mind, 345345.kmz is a special file not because it's compressed or contains GPS information, but because it references the external d:\D-1.jpg file. But his model won't work for other users because they don't have this image. Maybe he doesn't care about sharing most of the time, like everyone else, but when he needs to share a model like in this thread, it's a problem. And even if he shared D-1.jpg image, it might not work on computers without a D: drive, or under macOS and Linux where letters are not used for drives!

Thank you for your suggestion, but you did not grasp the key to the problem

Re: Best to make Furniture Library Editor support .kmz format file~

Thank you so much for doing a great thing
The real problem is KMZ or KML or DEA
Sweet Home 3D is too slow to load a 3D model of many small parts to form a large object. Those thumbnails have to be regenerated every time, and it takes more than a few minutes to generate one. Especially high quality thumbnails. Hope to optimize speed and show a loading progress bar. Otherwise, many people will think that the software is stuck.

TREE28.kmz is an extreme example, which is generally only the case for trees
But trees are the flaw of Sweet Home 3D. How to ensure the diversity of the tree without occupying too much storage space is a problem that needs to be balanced

Users should be given more choices so that they can use external textures or use common textures. This is a key step in reducing installation packages.
