Problems with print and PDF

Fantastic programme, but cant export or print

When I try to print preview or print to PDF i get an error in Java 3D window

Failed to create reference rasterizer 3D device -D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE

Then the program exits

I am running a 256mb laptop with WinXP
I have the latest Java 6.2 installed (but I used the full installer of Sweet Home 3D with jre)

Any ideas how I can solve this?

Re: Problems with print and PDF

I think this problem may happen when Java 3D can't create an image in memory of the 3D view.

First try to upgrade DirectX runtime and Video Drivers.
If this doesn't change anything, exclude 3D view from print with File > Page setup dialog. 3D view won't be printed but at least you'll be able to print furniture list and home plan.

Please, report if it was successful.

Re: Problems with print and PDF

Thanks for the swift reply.

I have since tried the programme on a completely different PC with latest Win XP etc and Java etc. Good graphics card and updated drivers.

The same problem - when I try to print, print preview or export to PDF the program shuts down. Although this time no error message is shown.

Seeing that it's the 3D view I am really interested in, is there any way of solving this problem? A screen capture is not really going to give a particularly good resolution..

I hope this is solvable as this is such a great program otherwise...

Re: Problems with print and PDF

You really aren't lucky ! :(

I hope that the next release of Java 3D will avoid the shut down of Sweet Home 3D. I opened a defect about this problem on Java 3D web site at https://java3d.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=527 ; please, vote for this issue and the more annoying issue https://java3d.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=526 , and find other people that may vote for them.
When I'll be able to detect that 3D view printing fails, I'll change the program to report the problem to users in a dialog and avoid Sweet Home 3D shut down, but I'm not sure it will resolve your configuration issue anyway.
