Shiny

I want a surface to be shiny, and is shiny when I render at the setting right below best. When I render on Best, though, the same surface is matt even though it's still set to shiny. How do I fix that? I REALLY need the surface to be shiny.

Re: Shiny

If you don't like the renderer shader set by default at the highest quality level, you should set the value of the property named com.eteks.sweethome3d.j3d.PhotoRenderer.highQuality.shininessShader to glossy. Setting this property depends on your system:

- under Windows, you should create a file named SweetHome3D.l4j.ini stored in Sweet Home 3D installation directory (by default, it's C:\Program Files\Sweet Home 3D), and write in it the following line (including the leading hyphen):
-Dcom.eteks.sweethome3d.j3d.PhotoRenderer.highQuality.shininessShader=glossy

- under Mac OS X, right click on the application icon of Sweet Home 3D, select Show Package Contents, open the Contents folder, edit the Info.plist file by dragging its icon on TextEdit application, look for the line that contains <key>Properties</key> and under the <dict> that follows it, add the two following lines:
<key>com.eteks.sweethome3d.j3d.PhotoRenderer.highQuality.shininessShader</key>
<string>glossy</string>

- under Linux, edit SweetHome3D script and just after the first occurence of java, add a space and the following text (including the hyphen):
-Dcom.eteks.sweethome3d.j3d.PhotoRenderer.highQuality.shininessShader=glossy

For the list of other properties you may want to try, please read this thread.

By the way, I would REALLY appreciate a more friendly tone in your messages. Adding words like "hello", "please" or "thank you" always help to keep everybody in a good mood, even more when all this information is provided for free.

Re: Shiny

Thank you for the help. There was no tone in my post, good or bad. I was merely frustrated, and posted the issue I was having hoping for a solution.
I do appreciate the program, even when it confuses me. It's still easier for me to use than the others I've tried.

Hear, hear. And pretty good value for money too.

BTW - if you want real shiny, as in reflection, you could have a look at SF 3d Models 303.

ok

PS As for tones or no tones, in light of your username, the intentional fallacy springs to mind... smile
