How to use furniture objects from 3D models?

Hello,

I'm currently designing a new kitchen and want to take advantage of IKEA FAKTUM cabinets. I've found a 3D model that contains the basic cabinets (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/detail...95ce3176b&prevstart=0) and downloaded it as a collada file and imported it in Sweet Home 3D using Furniture/Import Furniture but this seems to be wrong as it's displayed and treated as one object. So I think I should be using Furniture/Import Furniture library but the dialog doesn't recognize the collada library.

So I guess I need a way to convert other 3d Model files to Sweet Home Furniture library format. If possible, how can this be done?

Many thanks in advance for any pointers!

Regards
Joerg

Furniture > Import Furniture library is useful to import SH3F furniture library files only, and is not supposed to split into different parts a collection of 3D models belonging to the same Collada file! wink

You should install the free version of SketchUp, open with it the SKP file of the model you found on Google 3D Warehouse then for each model you want to import in Sweet Home 3D, select it in SketchUp, copy it in a new document and save it at DAE/Collada format by choosing File > Export > 3D Model... out of the menu of SketchUp.

Re: How to use furniture objects from 3D models?

Joerg,

What you should do is:
1 - download and install Sketchup (free version)
2 - download and open your model in Sketchup
3 - delete all cabinets except one
4 - export that cabinet as a 3D object (=DAE/Collada)
5 - undelete the deleted cabinets
6 - repeat steps 4 to 6 for the remaing cabinets
7 - import your individual cabinets in SH3D.

Sounds like a lot of work, but you can do this in 5 minutes, once Sketchup is installed.
Google provides versions for Windows and Mac. If you're using Ubuntu, use Winetricks to install it.
