Export as ZIP file?

Emmanuel:

Would it be possible to add a small feature?

The Export to OBJ format is very useful, but can cause a long list of files because of all the separate image files of textures.

Is it possible to add a feature Export to ZIP format , so that OBJ, MTL and al image files are exported in one tidy ZIP file?

Re: Export as ZIP file?

Hans,

Adding this menu item isn't a big work since the matching service is already programmed.
But before saying ok, I would really like to know some real use case.
Is there any software out there that accepts ZIP files containing OBJ+MTL files except Sweet Home 3D?
If it's only for Sweet Home 3D, isn't the Copy as new furniture plug-in enough?

By the way, we would have to find a better name than Export to ZIP format because this name doesn't say what there will be in the ZIP file and I might create a Export to DAE format one day. wink

Re: Export as ZIP file?

Hans and Emmanuel,

Instead of a zip, how about a Sweet Home automatically creates a folder for the obj, mtl and textures, with the current projects name and adds the date on the end?

This would keep it nice and neat and also allow export information.

Plus as well as having Export OBJ... also add

Export OBJ as.... (still creates a folder but instead of the above idea it allows the user to choose an obj export name)

Edit: to add Export as... extra idea

Re: Export as ZIP file?

Hans did the Copy as new furniture plug-in ever worked for you?
I would rather fix bugs in this plug-in than adding any menu items.

Re: Export as ZIP file?

Emmanuel:

Sorry for not answering before. Yes, the plug-in now works fine. I don't know why it didn't function properly earlier on. Now that the rendering problem from exported problems is solved, creating your own models (furniture, 2nd floor of a house, etc) has become much easier.

Nevertheless... if you want to make your own furniture you have to
a - select the parts
b - click Copy as new furniture
c - copy it with CTRL-V to insert it, then
d - copy it again to a new, empty instance of SH3D,
e - export it as an object,
f - import it as furniture.

So... maybe it would be possible to do it this way:
a - select the parts you want to export
b - select Copy as new furniture
c - the dialog window from Import furniture opens, and follows that sequence to import the selected items.

The only difference would be that instead of asking in which directory to look for the model, the dialog asks you in which directory you want to save the model.

One of the reasons why I want to this to work as easy as possible, is the number of "dialects" in the OBJ format. Every program seems to interpret the rules slightly different. Therefore the best models you can make for SH3D are models made with SH3D itself.
