Overwritten file - Can I recover?

Hi there,

Not really sure how this happened, but I was working on a plan for quite some time and then when I went to open it from 'open recent home', it said the file already existed and if I wanted to overwrite. I hastily said yes and it came up with a blank page. Now the file is blank.

Is there any way I can recover this? I could recall the plan from memory but there was quite a bit of detail that it would take me several nights to re-create.

Thanks in advance

Re: Overwritten file - Can I recover?

Maybe you could check the suggestion in this thread, but if you exited Sweet Home 3D and didn't experience any crash, there are little chances that the work folder is not empty.
Are you sure you didn't overwrite that file first?

Re: Overwritten file - Can I recover?

Thanks for the reply.

Something odd happened just before it where all my programs exited at the same time without me prompting anything. As I then went to re-open the sweet home and the file I was working on, it told me the file already existed and asked if I wished to overwrite. It may have crashed?

I had a go at that solution in the other thread. The file path doesn't exist for me.

Re: Overwritten file - Can I recover?

A remark from a recent experience I had:
I save my model on a Dropbox folder, and it saved me.

I model an old, big house with a very long and narrow garden. When I added the garden to the plan, it made the 3D view very hard to navigate, as it is always centered on the middle of the model.
Anyway, I temporarily removed the garden to view something precisely, but I forgot and I made another change, and saved my model… The garden was lost!

I went to the Dropbox folder on the Web, it allowed me to view the (recent) history of the file, and by restoring a few versions, I found the one with the garden!

Note: perhaps using Git or similar can be useful, too, but then, you have to remember to commit the changes…
